Originally the client’s grandparents’ home, the 1300-square-foot house built in 1949, got a whole-house refresh without changing the existing footprint. They entrusted us to preserve the charm and relevance to the post-war neighborhood, while integrating modern design elements and updating finishes throughout.
In this kitchen redesign, we aimed for a blend of modern style with vintage inspiration that respects the home’s original era. Although the space was narrow, we opened it up and enhanced natural light by removing the wall between the kitchen and laundry room.
We maximized the space by the back door by narrowing the cabinet depth, which allowed for additional storage while maintaining functionality. By blending open shelving with closed cabinetry, we achieved a balance between practical storage and an airy, open feel in a small space.
Dining Room
The doorway was widened into the kitchen created a stronger connection to the dining room without sacrificing cabinet space. We added drama by painting the walls a deep wine color and continued it on to the custom arched wall-to-wall cabinetry.
Primary Bath
In the main bathroom, we prioritized functionality and quality materials to make the most of the limited space. Despite the size constraint challenges, we were able to give the clients a separate soaking tub and shower to meet their wishlist.
To optimize storage, we added built-in niches and shelves wherever possible, even finding room for a full-height wall cabinet. This approach ensured that every available space was used effectively, adding both functionality and style to the design.
Powder Bath
This narrow powder room was added in the third bedroom and we wanted to have fun with it. We accomplished this with a bold geometric wallpaper offset by a bright orange wall-mounted sink and a matte white faucet.
